You Can Choose

You can choose to bend your back under the burdens of feeling incompetent, operating from scarcity and despair. Stagnant.

You can choose to bow your head and fix your eyes on the ground under the weight of never being good enough for yourself or anybody else.

You can choose to live on your knees, trapped in the dark hole of your circumstances and your mind.

Or.

You can choose to rise.

You can choose to climb.

You can choose to drop the weights and make them your bridge to greatness.

You can choose to get on your feet and fight your way out of the dark.

You can choose to raise your head, straighten your spine, and face down every feeling of less than or not good enough.

You can choose to slice through your reserve and say the things you really want to say. Do the things you really want to do. Feel the things you really want to feel.

You can choose to free yourself.

You can choose to value your growth and expansion more than you value your comfort.

Choice. Intention. Action. Reaction. A consciousness that your behaviour creates your present and your future. Might as well operate from a richness of spirit, eh?

There is always a choice: action or inaction; victory or defeat; blend with your power or blend with your fear.

Blending with your power strengthens you, sharpens your identity, emboldens you to flow with your challenges and stay fluid enough to find lasting solutions.

Blending with your fear depletes you, sucks you dry, blurs the shape of your identity and leaves you at the mercy of whatever challenge you encounter, both big and small.

You can choose to ask for help when you don’t have the answers.

You can choose to spark your soul fire and guard it fiercely against those who would douse it.

You can choose to go deeper than most and trust that you’re capable of handling whatever’s buried within.

You can choose.

What’s your choice? Will you decide to flourish, not because anyone says so or pushes you to, but for yourself? I hope your answer’s yes.

Mine is. Yes.

Of Stardust + Audacious Cosmic Energy

This whole week has been about being audacious and living out loud at full volume. Like, eardrum-piercing, blood-throbbing volume. Fuelled purely by your intuition and the fact that you’re simply brimming with cosmic energy, dahling.

Dictionary.com : audacious (adj):

  1. extremely bold or daring; recklessly brave; fearless
  2. extremely original; without restriction to prior ideas; highly inventive
  3. recklessly bold in defiance of convention, propriety, law, or the like; insolent; brazen
  4. lively; unrestrained; uninhibited

You are made of stardust. You are here to revel in colour and energy. You are here to live every single day. Believe that.

If you ask me what I came to this world to do, I will tell you: I came to live out loud.

Emile Zola

Incandescent inker Nikki Groom wrote a post that made me sit up and PAY ATTENTION: Indecision Is Brutal was a wake-up call like no other. Packed with gorgeous goodness and one soul-scorching line after the other, it made me ask one simple question: WTF was I doing dithering so much?

Why wasn’t I out there acting on my truth? Why wasn’t I lighting up the universe with my personal brand of magic? And more importantly, why are we so hesitant to step into our power?

While I was still chewing over Nikki’s words 2 days later, I read You’re Genius. Didn’t You Know? by Danielle Dowling. Danielle spoke my language and drummed home the message that it’s time to explode onto the scene. Now. NOW. Not tomorrow or next week.

Well, I don’t know about you but it definitely seemed like the universe was trying to tell me something. Not just me either, but you, you, you, and you. Everyone who reads this blog and the posts above. That message is simply this:

Be bold. Fierce. Audacious. Dare to dream so big you can’t imagine how it’ll ever be possible, then make it possible. Dare to have a vision so grand you wonder if you’re not deluding yourself, then knuckle down and work it into existence.

Follow your intuition so audaciously you have no room for doubt and second-guessing. Get out there and make shit happen.

You can have anything you want if you want it desperately enough. You must want it with an inner exuberance that erupts through the skin and joins the energy that created the world.

Beauty Is Magic

What’s your perception of beauty? How do you define it?

Is it limited to thin young women with glowing skin; fancy sports cars; and an exquisitely dressed fashionista?

To ask a tired question, what’s hot and what’s not?

I asked my new friend Paula if she wanted me to discuss anything in particular on here, and she mentioned society’s definition of beauty. In her exact words, “I am very interested in the way we as a society perceive beauty especially feminine beauty. As an artist I see beauty in just about anything and feel we have lost the richness that life has to offer.”

My response? “Now that’s some poetic expression. I can totally relate to what you’re saying and also feel we need to expand our perception of feminine beauty. It has nothing to do with our body measurements and/or sense of fashion; it has to do with our hearts and our souls and all the MAGIC we have to share with the world.”

I said that because beauty based on appearance alone is fleeting and shallow. I don’t care how skinny you are or how many designer brands you rock on a daily basis; if your inner self is ugly, your outer beauty is hard and bitchy.

So, what’s hot and what’s not? Continue reading

Voice Your Soul

“Lovely lady, I’m sitting on the bus having gone wow at the beauty, insight & courage of your writing!! The world needs to read this . . .”

My new friend and soul sister Marie Milligan said that to me on Twitter after she visited my blog for the first time and read The Bonds Between You and I. She later asked me how I write the way I do and if my English degree had anything to do with it. University certainly polished my skills but I’d like to think the raw talent was there all along, ha ha. 😀

So she made a special request for a post on How to Write From the Soul. The idea is to encourage those who feel they have something to say but don’t know how to say it, or if they’re even ready to say it. At the risk of claiming to know the answer to instantly fabulous writing, I’ll do my best to make this less about me and more about you. So, here goes.

I believe we all have a story waiting to be told. A truth, a yearning, something we must express to feel free, to feel true, to feel real. We long to be seen and heard, but we worry that our story isn’t interesting or witty or juicy enough. So we shut it in. We shut our voice in. And our spirits wilt with every passing moment. The Yearning

We all have the yearning.

Sometimes it’s faint, like a moth flitting around on the edge of our consciousness. Other times it’s a keen sensation, like a ball of fire in your gut as you ache for something you cannot yet identify.

The yearning is a sense that you want more to feel fuller, broader, more complete. Completion. It is an ache to fill a void so we can achieve completion.

What does completion mean, anyway? Doesn’t it imply that we are somehow lacking and need something else to make us whole? The answer to that is contradictory in and of itself: yes and no. Yes and No. Allow me to elaborate. Continue reading

No Holds Barred

How often do we let ourselves speak? Truly speak?

I don’t just mean having the courage to pipe up when we’re taking a stand for something or admitting an emotion.

I’m talking about letting our hearts talk to us without holding back. mean conversing with the soul in a way that is free and open and attentive.

No holds barred. Anything and everything free to flow and emerge and just come out.

Out of the darkness stuffed with all our best ideas.

Out of the space chock-full with our desires and visions and abilities.

Out of the knowledge that we are bright enough to do whatever we want to do and we deserve to shine, goddammit.

The Soul Juice Manifesto

Own your magnificence. Be bold, exotic, fabulous. Be proud to glow, baby.

Know. Savour. Embrace.

“I don’t know what to do.”

You do. You do know what to do. You’ve always known.

You know that you need to live true to yourself. You know that you need to work towards your desire, not against it. You know that you need to feel alive by doing the things that are sacred and important to you.

You know. You know.

Your soul is nudging you right now, isn’t it? Whispering in your ear and urging you to leap. Leap. Piping up and saying “She’s right, you know. Let’s go for it. Let’s!”

Let it move you. Let it speak. Let it grow. Let your soul guide you. Continue reading

Listen. Feel. Breathe.

Switch off from the noise and chatter

And let yourself breathe

Listen to what you’re feeling and thinking

And breathe.

Free yourself from the small talk shredding your spirit

Shrinking your vision and your glow

Raise the bar high, as high as you dare!

Life is meant to be lived fully, with your spirit grounded in the here.

This moment, this second, this thin slice of time

Merging with another, and another, to meet us at our prime

What will you say when asked how you’ve lived

If all the noise and chatter drowned out what you could have achieved?
