Listen. Feel. Breathe.

Switch off from the noise and chatter

And let yourself breathe

Listen to what you’re feeling and thinking

And breathe.

Free yourself from the small talk shredding your spirit

Shrinking your vision and your glow

Raise the bar high, as high as you dare!

Life is meant to be lived fully, with your spirit grounded in the here.

This moment, this second, this thin slice of time

Merging with another, and another, to meet us at our prime

What will you say when asked how you’ve lived

If all the noise and chatter drowned out what you could have achieved?

How Would It Feel to . . . Stretch?

Beyond all boundaries. Right up to the edge and over.

Beyond the self-sabotage and deprecation. “Oh, I can’t! I’m just not good enough”? Gone. Vanquished. Wiped out.

Beyond the critics and naysayers. The founts of doubt and pessimism. Block them out. Tune into your kick-ass frequency and take the world by storm, dammit!

Beyond the trepidation. The fear. The “What if I fall?” and “It would SUCK to fail.” Brace up. Believe. Your future’s calling and urging you to unfurl those wings. Pack light.

Beyond the pain. The depression. The heartbreak. The past. It happened to you. Why let it define you as well?

Beyond the dilly-dallying and second guessing. Do it or screw it. Either way, DO something.

Beyond questioning your ability, right, or sheer balls to do so. The short answer is yes. The long answer is you have a gift to share with us all.

Beyond the disappointments and setbacks. Caving in weakens the spirit. Pushing forward strengthens it. Get yourself a cheer-leading posse to point out the rainbows when you can’t see the sky for your tears.

Beyond burnout and exhaustion. Running dry is part of the human condition; ignore the signs at your own peril. Build a self-care practice to meet your needs and refresh your spirit.

Beyond narrow mindsets and blinkered vision. Life is organic. Let your spirit soar wild and free. Fact: Innovation does not favour closed minds.

Beyond hushing your truth and hiding your enthusiasms. Boldness leaves an indelible mark on history. Every time.

Beyond believing it’s all right for others to shine but there ain’t enough space for them and you. Hogwash. We are all bright stars. The cosmos form our playground. Light is our heritage. Word.

How would it feel to stretch beyond every challenge and reach the rare jewel on the other side?

I’ll tell you how it would feel. Fan-freakin’-tastic. :-)

Thank you for reading; it means a lot to have you here. Please feel free to share this post with your networks. Come say hi on Facebook or find me on Twitter! I’m always looking to connect. Ciao, lovelies.

Living Beyond Your Past

Who you were back then is not who you are right now.

You are wiser now. Braver. Stronger.

There’s nothing to gain from repeatedly crucifying yourself for past mistakes and bad experiences. So you did, said, or allowed something you shouldn’t have. You messed up and it was BAD. Fair enough, we’ve all been there.

I just have one question: why are you still visiting that hurtful and embarrassing place?

Maybe you haven’t worked through it yet. Maybe there’s a lesson yearning to be learned. Maybe you’re yet to forgive yourself or whoever’s responsible. Maybe you feel such forgiveness isn’t an option.

Whatever the case, it’s imperative to be aware of the reasons behind your actions. How can you outgrow your past if you don’t know why you’re still holding on in the first place? How can you “let it go” while unable to discern a tight grip like your life depended on it? How can you break free if you don’t realise your captivity?

There are no quick fixes, no speedy cures. Nobody knows how long it will take to cleanse your system and free your space for positive energy. We do know, however, that whatever has happened TO you is nowhere near as powerful as what can happen FOR you. Facing what has come before will determine how you experience what can happen from now on. Work through it and open yourself up to feel and do and be so much more.

Freedom begins with intention. It continues with affirmative action. It culminates in definitive resolution.

You have to love yourself enough to stand tall and stop being a victim. Living in the past just keeps you trapped in the familiar and tricks you into believing there’s nothing beyond the narrow confines of the particular burden(s) you bear. But there is. There IS.

Choose to evolve rather than remain stagnant. Let a new beginning replace the same old ending. Grow with grace into mercy and redemption. Treat your past as a lesson, not a blueprint for your present + future. We remain as we choose to be, and we can choose the ability to stand tall in spite of what has happened to us.

You can choose to free yourself from the shame and jettison the pain. You can decide to fashion a new way of life for yourself and be healthier, stronger. You can live beyond your past when you leave it behind you and centre yourself in this present moment. Right here. Right now. This very moment. And the next, and the next. Life can be beautiful if you let it. :)

Light. Significance. Power. Bliss.

This is my prayer for you . May you have:

Light to guide your feet and clear all confusion, to illuminate your path and banish doubt + its illusions.

Significance as a description of your way of life, a sure sign that you’re contributing your fair share (and more!) in everything you do.

Power to achieve the things you must and change what you can.

Bliss to fill you up and make you go “ahhh.” :)

Each aspect is so important. We can’t claim to be fully alive in the absence of one or more of them, you know? There’ll always be a sense of something missing, something needed, something more

Think about that for a minute. Really think.

How much light do you have? Do you feel significant?  Are you truly aware of and/or using your power? Does your bliss make you glow on a regular basis?

I read a stirring post by Premakarini yesterday. Spontaneity: the royal road to discovering & being your intuitive + authentic self had me jigging with excitement because its message was so poignant in its simplicity: let yourself be happy. Let yourself feel. Flow with spontaneity and the thrill of going with your gut.

I know our world is run by rules and time slots, deadlines and methodologies, and with good reason; standards maintain order and all that. At the same time, though, we run the risk of living in drudgery if we don’t become best friends with our intuition. Speaking of which, Premakarini also has great posts on intuition here and here.

By its very definition, intuition is a sense that we can elevate ourselves or a situation by doing something (seemingly) radical. More time to yourself = more inspired creativity = a higher level of living & being. Result! 😀

Light. Significance. Power. Bliss. You are meant for it all. Living a fulfilling life is a right, not a privilege. Claim yours today.

Burn that Boat!

Every week or so, Danielle LaPorte asks a Burning Question designed to make you stop and think: “Why am I doing this? Why do I want that? What will happen if I don’t do that?”

I’m a bit late because this is last week’s question (ahem), but anyway here it is:

what boat do you need to burn? a testimony to your future

To tell the truth, I think a part of me was resisting writing this post. Because the question went straight for my solar plexus. Because it smacked me upside the head and said “Otiti, you HAVE to stop doing this!”, then gathered me in for a hug and promised it would be OK. Notice how long it’s taking me to say what damn boat I’m burning?

(Inhale). Here goes.

I’m burning the boat of needing. I’m burning the boat of need. I’m turning into ash the concept that I need x to do y before I can be happy and/or fulfilled.

I need you to love me so I can validate my self-worth.

I need you to cut me some slack so I can feel better about myself.

I need to drop a dress size or two so I can feel really sexy.

Not anymore.

I choose to love me as I am and know my self-worth is immeasurable.

I choose to show up and do the work. No excuses. No handicaps.

I choose to be foxy right now, dammit, because there’s no such thing as the perfect weight or figure for all women; there’s only the perfect weight for me.

Need is an insidious thing. It swallows your power and makes you dependent on external factors + influences to be on top of your game. Ironically, it’s also a safe zone because you know exactly what you’ll get when you do certain things. Only problem is, it’s never really enough, is it? You’ll always need more. And more. And more.

Clutching need like a life raft ends today. It ends here. It ends now.

I need nothing. I have everything.

And you? What boat are you gonna burn?

Hello, Universe? Is That You?

I feel like the universe is speaking to me. I’m finding my way to lots of smart, sparkling, awesome women living their dreams and writing/speaking/teaching about it. They all have blogs. Most or all of them swear by yoga. A lot of what they have to say is in tune with my personal philosophy.

Now, here’s the interesting/scary part: 95% of them are coaches.

Dear universe, what does that mean for me? Am I being called to become one or to get one? I’m all for it if it’s the latter; just hand me the dosh and I’ll book some sessions faster than you can blink, LOL.

If it’s the former, hmm. I’m not really sure what I could offer potential clients besides maniacally repeating, “Go for it! Yes you can! I know you can! :D”, ha ha.

OK now, let’s be serious. It’s truly serendipitous how these great women are crossing my path within days or even hours of each other, all with the same message:

Do it now. Trust yourself. Be open. Every risk is worth it. Have faith.

This is the part where I discover if I can walk my talk or not; if I can leap off the edge and trust my wings to carry me; and if I can believe that what I thought what “just” a dream can actually become my reality.

When I wrote The Power of Gratitude, I mentioned Rhonda Byrne’s book The Secret and its effect on me. The book’s major theme is the Law of Attraction, something that’s really been at work in ways I can’t even begin to fathom. How else would expert coaches find and follow me on Twitter, then ask to share my words because they love my blog? Yup, Lisa Hayes of Good Vibe Coaching Academy did just that. We even connected a bit afterwards and chatted about life in general. Oh, and did I mention she’s a Law of Attraction coach?

This is why I’m wondering if the universe isn’t trying to tell me something. I’ve been wishing to find a community where I belong, a path I can call my own, so maybe I’m experiencing the results right now? How fabulous. :)

When you’re clear about what you want and trust it will come to you, it does.

When you tap into gratitude and say “thank you” not just for what you have but what you will get, it manifests.

When you believe that abundance is yours and your desires are worthy, they happen.

Nobody has all the answers. We’re all learning through life’s journey. But the answers are there if we are conscious of and receptive to them. They’re always there; waiting, calling, glowing; urging us to open our hearts and minds and see them. To feel them. To know they’re waiting to give us all we hope for and all we need.

Is the universe trying to tell you something today? Are you getting signs to embark on a particular venture or make room for something new? Have the courage to answer and everything you need will come your way if you let it. If you believe it. If you dare.

You can. I know you can. I know you will. :)

The Power of Authentic Expression

It’s real. Honest. Raw. Exhilarating.

Authentic expression is the outflow of your core and the mindspace of your creativity.

It’s what happens when you immerse yourself in your truth and live faithful to the principles therein.

It’s when you’re bold enough to put yourself out there and really be who you are.

Some time ago, I posted a tweet that read “Be authentic; therein lies your own brand of originality. Being real is the new cool.” It made me reflect on the importance of knowing yourself and living your truth, being your own person and finding your voice.

So many times we find ourselves holding back from saying what we feel because we don’t know how the other person(s) will take it and we’re too timid or afraid to risk it.

Let me tell you a secret: you die a little more inside every time you shut yourself up.

Shooting down the voice of intuition is similar to depriving your soul of oxygen; sooner or later, something has to give. And guess what does? Your special brand of expression.

So. Make that pitch. Write that story. Paint that picture. Chase that dream. Nurture that passion. There’s nothing wrong with going after what you want and nothing right with talking yourself out of it.

There are few things more painful than waking up one day and realising you could have had it all but you let it slip through your fingers.

Authentic expression will enrich your life. It’ll give you a style all your own. You’ll be an original, not a copy; a rare specimen, not an ordinary drone; and the brightest facet of yourself, not the dimmed-down version.

But hey, don’t take my word for it. Try it out and see for yourself. :-)

Malu also has an interesting take on authenticity. Read about it here!

What If?

I used to see those two words as harbingers of timidity and uncertainty: What if I fail? What if I fall? What if I’m wrong? What if they don’t like me/accept me/support my idea?

You know, that kind of thing.

Then I realised: they hold great potential. Potential. Possibilities.

What if you succeed?

What if you own the competition and go hard like never before?

What if you binned the doubt and went for it even in the face of great adversity?

What if you learned to fly even as you were falling?

Things are changing around and within me. I’m actually giving myself a chance to go with my gut and trust that it’s the right thing to do. I’m realising that all the careful planning in the world can’t match the sheer thrill of letting yourself feel on a deeper level.

You’re so much more in tune with yourself when you think beyond the borders of what’s “real” or acceptable.

The truth is that letting yourself think wild and free is the key to authentic expression.

It’s the beat of your pulse.

It’s the difference between wondering if you’ll make it and knowing that you will.

It’s the raw honesty you get when you face your hopes and fears; when you can look at yourself, really look, and truly be thankful for all that you are and have.

Even when you’re not perfect. Especially because you’re not. We get so caught up in trying for perfection that we forget to celebrate what we have right now.

What if.

What if you discovered you didn’t have to try so hard?

What if you were kinder to yourself and didn’t allow momentary setbacks negate your progress & achievements?

What if you believed in your power and still asked for help when you needed it because you knew that didn’t make you weak?

What if you took the first step because you couldn’t wait to taste the extraordinary?

I believe in positivity.

I believe in magic.

I believe in loving yourself enough to admit what you desire and what you need.

I believe in being true to your spirit and going where it leads you.

What if we changed “Oh, I can’t possibly . . .” to “Yeah, I can totally . . .”?

I may not know your name. I may not know your story. I probably don’t know what you’ve experienced, what you’ve felt, what you’ve endured.

I only know that holding on to your past is the surest way of sabotaging your present and future.

Having the courage to work through the pain and give yourself a chance to heal is a lot harder than hugging the hurt and staying trapped in an endless loop of recrimination and dissatisfaction.

So take a chance today.

Give yourself the gift of following your heart.

Give yourself the gift of living your passion.

Give yourself the gift of being your own person.

Give yourself the gift of continuously evolving and growing.

So. Are you ready to turn your ‘what-ifs’ into expressions of power and aptitude?
