Communicating a vision takes skill, stamina, and courage. Not only must you know how to say what you have to say, you also have to know why to say it and actually go through with it.
Dreams are ethereal and making them tangible requires focused work, otherwise you’ll have a ton of great ideas lying in the graveyard of half-baked thoughts and gauzy wishes. Hear me when I say that’s not a pretty place to be!
When you have a dream, vision, or calling, you need a series of steps to cross from inception to completion.
Unless you map out an action plan beforehand, you’ll spend a lot of time fumbling and stumbling when you should be marching ahead with confidence.
Instead of wasting time wool-gathering, design a workflow that helps you figure out what you want to say, why it’s important to say it, and what you’re willing to invest to make it happen.
When you have all that down, you’ll have the drive to jump in and begin.
Need some help? Here’s a 3-step process to explore:
1. Simplify
What’s your message? Who’s your mission for?
Pare it down and get super clear on the nuts and bolts so you have a solid foundation to build on.
If you don’t fully understand your vision, no one else will, and you won’t get the traction you need to reach your goal.
Strip away the fluff and hone in on the gold.
2. Amplify
Turn it up. Now that you know your message and who you’re talking to, how do you reach them? What will you do to draw them in?
Craft a multi-sensory experience with as many elements as you can—audio, video, written word, physical objects—and get in front of your audience.
Run small experiments to see which ones perform best and polish your delivery with them.
The more ways you have to get your point across, the better your chances of resonating with your audience and building momentum to sustain you on your journey.
Ante up.
3.) Testify
Shout it from the rooftops. At this point you already know why people should care, you’ve shared your message, and you’ve gotten positive feedback.
This is where you launch a campaign to reach even more people and rally your troops as you hurtle towards your goals.
Again, a multimedia campaign will broaden your reach and go deeper than a single-element campaign can.
This means doing audio and/or video in addition to your blog posts and emails, creating T-shirts and postcards with your slogans, and even snagging guest spots on podcasts, radio shows, and TV shows that serve your target audience.
Give people a chance to see, hear, and feel your passion, your great desire to help them, and your utter dedication to transporting them to a better place.
A multi-dimensional campaign lets you go deeper into your vision, and it’s that depth of genuine desire and conviction that draws people to you.
Of course, this isn’t something you do all at once, which is why it’s a 3-step process spread out over a timeline that gives you space to thoroughly define your vision before you share it with other people.
Action brings clarity, so the more you flesh out your dream, the brighter and more polished your idea becomes, and the easier it gets to share it with confidence and power.
The most remarkable ideas are the ones that are sharp, nimble, and emotionally powerful. Hitting that golden trifecta means taking the time to express and refine your vision until it glows.
This is not, however, a call for perfection or endless tweaking. Set a deadline and some guidelines for yourself and your team so you know when it’s time to move to the next stage.
Keep your momentum flowing, not tied up in knots in one spot. When you know what to look out for, you know when you get there and what to do if/when you experience any challenges, delays, and setbacks.
Mapping out your action plan and keeping it simple means you won’t be slowed down by analysis paralysis and overwhelm.
The emphasis is on nimble, sustainable actions that cut the fat and spark clarity, drive, and stamina so you’re constantly in motion, and headed where you want to be.
It’s pointless to travel in circles or down dead-ends because you lack a clear direction; know where you’re headed and have a contingency plan when you veer off-course.
Your dreams matter. Invest the time and focus to nurture and sharpen them so you can share them and gather the support you need to make them happen.
Simplify, amplify, and testify—rise to meet the challenge and reward of your deep focus, sustainable action, and reaching your end goals.
