Is that enough to give your all?
I answer this question the first day I teach Your Beautiful Dreams, my virtual workshop that helps women get their ideas out into the world so they can live their big dreams.
I have five spots. They’re gone within twenty-four hours. It’s a free run and everyone’s stoked.
Score!
But.
I wake up to a last-minute cancellation. A few deep breaths later, I’m down to four with no time to invite someone else.
OK, four out of five. I can work with that.
I say a prayer, open Google+ Hangouts, send out the link, and wait for my ladies.
One woman shows up.
What. Is. HAPPENING?!
Yes, I’m yelling in my head.
I welcome her, chitchat, and we dive in. I find my rhythm, turn down the monkey chatter, and focus on my only student.
“Am I animated enough? Maybe I can relax a tiny bit more? Is this OK?”
I’m one thought away from melting into a basket case from the nerves and disappointment.
But.
I’m there, I’m teaching, and somebody’s listening to me. She’s telling her story because she trusts me to lead her through my writing prompts & live coaching. She’s there.
One person’s watching me and trusting me to give her my all.
How can I let her down?
I can’t, so I don’t.
One hour later, Your Beautiful Dreams is officially a thing. I wrap up and end the call.
I’m thinking, “Wow, I’m teaching again. Hey now! I can’t wait to do that again.”
What I’m not thinking?
“I’m a failure, no one wants me, I’m so embarrassed.”
I don’t know why those women didn’t come. I don’t know what went wrong and why.
What I do know?
One person heard me and it was enough to give my all.
Bottom line?
Sometimes you start small, you start slow, and you wonder if your dream’s any good. You don’t know who you’re reaching or how or when.
Maybe your story’s resonating one heart at a time.
A teenager’s quiet resolve that bullying won’t break her.
A mother’s bravery to start her own cooking blog.
A woman’s joy as she launches her own Christian podcast.
All because you show up anyway.
What if only one person hears, watches, or reads you?
Begin.
Give.
Sow the seeds for the beautiful garden of your visions and dreams.
Your people are waiting.
Don’t know your special sauce yet?
